Chiefs tame Madness

July 15th, 2007

RLC played their first ever Rec Hockey and came out on top beating Medway Madness 4-2 at Gillingham in the early hours of this morning.  This was the first of a double header the return match at Bracknell this evening at 22:45.  Due to other commitments the Chiefs were only able to field 8 players!  They took the lead at 7:05 of the first with good play from Oates setting Ivanovic up for his debut goal.

The Madness put the pressure on and some sloppy play in the Chiefs end allowed Rawlings to set up Cook for the equaliser at 10:32.   The Chiefs restored their lead at 12:10 of the first period with Oates winning a crucial face off that allowed Rook, recently brought up from the Chiefs farm team, to one time a slap shot in the top corner.

The second period was evenly contested. The Chiefs made it 3-1 at 12:01 of the period when O’Hagan skated up through the middle and put his own rebound in the back of the net.   The Madness again came back at the Chiefs who were starting to tire with only 2 men to change up the lines.  The defence let Long get a shot away and left Cook all alone on the post to tap in the rebound off Brooks’ pads.

In the third period the Chiefs played smart hockey.  keeping the puck out of their end and forcing the Madness to keep regroupoing in centre ice.  Smith, on a tryout appearance, scored a unassited marker at 14:24 and the Chiefs then wound down the clock for first win.  A well contested game and with the EIHA failing to produce officals one that was played in a good sportmanslike manner. Man of the match for the Chiefs was Rook.

Chiefs storm to win

July 16th, 2007

Bolstered by actually having 2 lines the Chiefs stormed to a 7-0 win in the return match against Medway Madness.   The game was closer than the scoreline suggets with the Madness working hard but unable to get past the solid goaltending of Brooks who turned aside all 27 shots faced.   Oates starred for the Chiefs upfront with 3 unassisted goals.  Leon also grabbed 2 goals with solitary markers coming from Clarke and Smith.

Man of the Match was Dale Smith
